EWC issues

Alot of people been talking about their political issues with EWC but its just a shitty tournament for val in general especially with how the quals work.

Afaik the top 2 stage 1 teams of each region get an invite and the rest is given through quals, the torunament starts about 2 weeks after toronto.

Firstly, any 3rd seed would be insanely dumb to take part in qualifiers since toronto is just more important than EWC and youd want to focus on that. So We will probably see teams that are significantly worse than the top seeds of each region.

1st and 2nd seed teams wills till be entirely focused on toronto for now, and the better they do at masters, they less prep time they have and the more info other teams (and viewers) have on them. Meaning they will be at a pretty significant disadvantage at EWC and the better you perform in Toronto the bigger that disadvantage will get.

This probably leads to EWC being either one of two outcomes: A slightly more boring repeat of toronto, in which we just see the top teams we just saw play again but with less prep and new shit, or some qualifier team winning what would probably be the most micky mouse trophy ever due to every team thats better than them being put at a big disadvantage.

I cannot imagine this tournament to be very entertaining honestly, this is the type of shit we needed in month long dry off seasons not right after weve seen the very same teams play in a more important tournament already. Whack.

perhaps it will just be the ultimate humbling tournament for one team and its fanbase that wins EWC and then gets grouped at champs

Listen, i agree that there's a lot of problems with EWC, but

This probably leads to EWC being either one of two outcomes: A slightly more boring repeat of toronto, in which we just see the top teams we just saw play again but with less prep and new shit, or some qualifier team winning what would probably be the most micky mouse trophy ever due to every team thats better than them being put at a big disadvantage.

  1. If the top team wins, it's boring
  2. If the underdogs wins because of more prep, it's mickey mouse

So what do you want then??

Its about how those outcomes come to be:

If the top team wins again, its likely to be boring since we have seen the exact same top teams pull out pretty much everything they have just 2 weeks prior. There will be barely anything new and very few surprises coming from those teams. The exciting part about a masters is seeing the international matchups and seeing some of these teamns reach kind of a "new level" from their regional performance because of what is on the line.
All of that stuff wont be "new" at EWC anymore. We will most likely see the exact same G2, the same TH, the same FNC... that we saw just 2 weeks ago, play against the same teams we just saw them against. Imagine they would just play stage 1 groups again tomorrow, none of thos games would have anything exciting anymore.

If an underdog wins at a masters, they win despite all the other teams having looked better and they win on the exact same conditions as them. They have the same (if not less) prep time and just simply beat the other team when it mattered. EWC will just have the sour aftertaste of underdogs winning NOT because tey played better, but because the overdog was put in a tougher spot then them. Think of a boxing game: It wouldve been fun to see some underdog beat the shit out of Mike Tyson, but not if its Mike Tyson at 80 years old while sleep deprived and with a broken leg. A drastically unbalanced matchup like that tells us nothing about who the better team is.

yea... this is the type of message im getting from this too
and not beat a dead horse but with the amount of matches tier 1 CS pros play, Valorant is still behind. I personally think this is a great step in the right direction, even if there are some growing pains in the first few years (such as the format)

Theres a fundamental difference between CS and Val, because Valorant is simply much more prep heavy. In Valorant, the advantage that you gain from observing a team play multiple officials while you have free time to prep is exponentially higher than in CS.

Its okay to have tight schedules if all teams have tight schedules - the issue at hand is just that qualifier teams have big advantages while especially the playoffs/top 3 teams of toronto have a giant disadvantage. It just forcfully closes all skill gaps and turns the whole tournament into slop.

You either only invite teams that arent at toronto, or dont hold the tournament right after. Simple as.

If they can win the tournament then they can, no one will really let go of the tournament

Yes they will, teams that will have done good at Toronto will be burnt out and will have had to travel with little to no rest, and will have no reason to try hard, especially considering the fact that EWC's results don't give any champs points

Btw apparently the observing will be absolute dogshit as well as the format/repartition of the games. I might watch the highlight or smth but even outside of the gameplay quality, this will pbb not be an enjoyable tournament

do the orgs have to fly out the same players they currently have, cant they just sign a roster for the tournament only

EWC just relies on dumping a fk ton of money on a tournament and hoping it does well (which it never does)

You can say all bad things of this tournament, the fact that tournament give you a lot of money and its just stup1d if anyone think that all org not care about this tournament.

#20

I didnt say that. The fact is simply that every team that quals for Toronto cares more about Toronto. Anything else would be idiotic.

T1 winning Bangkok and not making Toronto got FRAUD fluke allegation.
Whoever wins Toronto gonna get the FRAUD + fluke check allegation too if they can't win EWC after.
Don't wanna hear any double standards/technicality/what if/situational excuses.

2 completely different situations lmao, T1 had an entire stage and playoffs to recover from the disadvantage that going deep in an international puts you at, Toronto teams will have 2 weeks to overcome that disadvantage, fundamentally different situations

Tarik said he’s going to watch it and do a charity stream. If Sliggy does something I’ll watch him and donate. Otherwise I’ll be watching Tarik and donate. At the end of the day it is more Valorant and if there are teams attending that I like (TH, FNC, TL) I’ll watch them. But at least I can feel a bit better about the situation by contributing to a good cause.

I mean he is in a bit of a shit situation being a streamer for SEN. He asked his chat if he should only watch the SEN games. But if he watches the whole thing at least that should raise more money (and he will match it) so big W.

Riot:

  • Bans Russian orgs over politics
  • Ignores political problems with EWC

We love lack of consistency. ☺️ I don't care how good the tournament is if they're going to be two-faced. The political issue is always going to be the main problem.

Riot never banned a Russian org, but another esports organiser, like PGL, banned them. There are only 3 major esports orgs in Russia, which are Team Spirit, Gambit and Virtus Pro. Only one of those has a team in Valorant; the rest don't have any or try to. The one that did, which is Gambit, disbanded the moment most of their sponsors left them due to their close ties to the government. The rest survive because they are based in other regions, like Team Spirit in Serbia and Virtus Pro in Armenia.
