i think what i’ve heard is that one slot goes to winner of playoffs, and one slot goes to the team with the most points

No I think top 2 does go to ascension and circuit points were used to qualify into the playoffs

as far as I know it's because getting visas to NA is terrible for the other regions, so they are alternating between mexico and brazil
